How to Report a Name Change as a Florida Notary
If your legal name changes during your notary commission term, you must update your information with the State of Florida to continue performing notarizations properly.
1. Continue Using Your Commissioned Name
Until your name change is officially processed, you must continue notarizing under the name listed on your current commission.
2. Notify the Florida Department of State
You must submit a Name Change Form to the Florida Department of State, Notary Section.
Include:
- Your current commissioned name
- Your new legal name
- Your commission number (if available)
- Your signature (both old and new name, if applicable)
- Must provide the date when you legally change your name.
3. Order a New Notary Stamp
You must obtain a new notary stamp with your updated name before performing notarizations under the new name.
4. Update Your Records
Update your information with:
- Your notary service provider
- RON platform (if applicable)
- Business records and clients
