Report a Name Change

How to Report a Name Change as a Florida Notary

If your legal name changes during your notary commission term, you must update your information with the State of Florida to continue performing notarizations properly.

 1. Continue Using Your Commissioned Name

Until your name change is officially processed, you must continue notarizing under the name listed on your current commission.

 2. Notify the Florida Department of State

You must submit a Name Change Form to the Florida Department of State, Notary Section.

Include:

  • Your current commissioned name
  • Your new legal name
  • Your commission number (if available)
  • Your signature (both old and new name, if applicable)
  • Must provide the date when you legally change your name.

 3. Order a New Notary Stamp

You must obtain a new notary stamp with your updated name before performing notarizations under the new name.

4. Update Your Records

Update your information with:

  • Your notary service provider
  • RON platform (if applicable)
  • Business records and clients

Important Reminder

Do not perform notarizations using your new name until:
✔ Your name change has been processed
✔ You receive confirmation from the State
✔ You have your updated notary stamp

Stay Compliant and Protected

Reporting your name change promptly ensures your notarizations remain valid and helps you stay compliant with Florida law.
